Marlow Public Schools hosted the 2021 Football Homecoming on Sept. 24 against their rival, the Comanche Indians.
The 2021 Homecoming court consisted of seniors Kailey Griggs escorted by Chance O’Neal, Korie Kizarr escorted by Trey Southerland, Lyvia Bateman escorted by Tyler Callahan, Danielle Gill escorted by Jace Gilbert, Kirsten Nunley escorted by Kyle Wilson and Crowning Captain Will Bergner escorted by Riley New.

Bergner described his experience as Crowning Captain.

“Being Crowning Captain wasn’t something I expected, but it was nice because now I have bragging rights over my brothers,” Bergner said. “It was a really cool experience, and it was exciting to be able to represent and be recognized by my teammates.”

Homecoming coronation took place before the game at 7:00 p.m. where Nunley was named the 2021 Marlow Football Homecoming Queen.

Nunley describes what being Homecoming Queen means to her.

“For me, it was a total surprise, and I was so honored to have been nominated to even be on court with the rest of my beautiful and talented classmates; I could have never imagined actually being chosen as queen,” Nunley said. “We’ve been through season after season together. They rarely surprise, me but they did on Friday by honoring me in the way they did.”

Prior to the game, the week of Sept. 20-24 was the Marlow Outlaw Spirit Week with this year’s theme being “Through the Decades.”

The theme on Monday was “Been Winning Since the Beginning of Time” where students dressed as caveman and or in ancient attire. Tuesday was “Raised on the Outlaws” where students dressed as their younger selves, Wednesday was “Predicting an Outlaw Victory,” and students dressed as their future selves. Finally, Thursday was “We’ve Been Beating Comanche for Decades, ”and the freshmen dressed in 50’s attire, sophomores dressed in 60’s and 70’s attire, juniors had the 90’s and seniors had the 80’s. 

Marlow Public Schools was out of school Friday, Sept. 24 due to parent-teacher conferences, but supporters wore blue and white to the game to show their support.

Homecoming is very important to the town of Marlow, and Bernger highlights some reasons why.

“Homecoming is definitely important to Marlow because it gets everyone involved,” Bergner said. “Not just the teachers and students but our whole community. It is a really cool atmosphere to be in when the stands are packed and everyone in town is cheering for us.”

Marlow held a school wide pep assembly for homecoming on Sept. 23, that allowed Pre-k through 12 grade to celebrate their Outlaw pride.

The Bootleggers performed a dance for the attending parents and students of Marlow and the cheerleaders executed stunts. The senior football boys also participated in a “Tiktok Dance Challenge” where they performed dances that are trending on the social media platform.

Finally after the display of support for the boys, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 the Marlow Outlaw football team faced the Comanche Indians on their home field.

The Outlaws were up early in the first quarter 14-0 with the outlaws showcasing their offensive abilities.

Marlow continued their lead over the Indians, pushing ahead 21-0 at halftime.

The boys continued their resilience, ending up the game with a final score of 36-0.
This was Marlow’s seventh straight win over the Comanche Indians, bringing the rivals’ game history to 55-21.

The Outlaws are currently 4-0 overall,1-0 in league games, currently ranked third in the Oklahoma Division 2A and also ranked 25th in all divisions in the state of Oklahoma.

During the game, the student section and the Marlow band were being loud to distract the Comanche football team.

After yet another victory, Marlow Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Student Council (StuCo) continued the week’s celebrations by hosting a homecoming parking lot party after the game in the new gym parking lot.

They provided entertainment such as spikeball, cornhole, music and a photo booth.

The parking lot party was only open to high school students and ended at midnight.

Hoping to add yet another victory to their scoreboard, the Marlow Outlaw football team will make their next appearance on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m., as they face off against the Lindsay Leopards at the Lindsay football field.
