Baade exhibits extraordinary diligence
Senior and Head Layout Editor for the MHS exPRESS, Caleb Baade has been a member of the journalism staff since the end of his freshman year.
Baade is vital to the success of the newspaper by making sure the newspaper looks professional for publishing.
Fellow senior and Editor-in-Chief of journalism, Chelsea Rose discussed Baade’s importance to the journalism class.
“Caleb is definitely one of the most important people in journalism,” Rose stated. “He works hard on every project he takes on, and failure is never an option for him.”
His hard work paid off as he was awarded the honorable mention for Print or Online Page Design for the On-Deadline contest hosted by Oklahoma Scholastic Media (OSM) at Spring Media Monday on Apr. 27, 2021.
Baade has had many positive experiences and learned many techniques throughout his participation in the program.
“My favorite part of journalism is seeing all the stories and pictures I get from the writers come together in a complete product,” Baade explained. “Journalism has taught me how to work with others and learn more about time management skills.”
Putting these time management skills to good use, Baade participates in several other extracurriculars as well, such as cross country, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and National Honor Society.
Alongside his extracurricular activities, he also manages a part-time job while maintaining his grades.
All his hard work, however, has not gone unnoticed.
Journalism advisor and senior English teacher, Haley Wilson, has noticed how hard Baade works for the newspaper.
“Caleb is continually researching innovative ways to design the school newspaper, and he has met the challenge of being the one in charge of putting the newspaper together,” Wilson said. “His ability to communicate well with others and work under pressure will help him throughout college and life.”
Baade plans on taking his experience and dedication to the University of Oklahoma and majoring in computer science.
