Trends sweep through MHS
The year of 2021 has brought many new and old trends to Marlow High School.
High school is the time for kids to reinvent themselves and go out of their comfort zone.
Multiple clothing trends can be seen around campus including mom jeans, trench coats, cowboy boots and sweater vests.
According to website fireflyandfinch.com, mom jeans have been around since the mid 1980s and were first worn by Madonna.
Although clothing always provides noticeable trends on campus, so do trending hairstyles such as mullets, curtain bangs and wolf cuts.
Mullets are a huge trendy hairstyle going around America, and they were a trend in 1994 too due to the Beastie Boys’s song “Mullet Head” where the term “mullet” was created, according to history.com.
As stated by pewresearch.org,twenty-seven percent of students deal with the peer pressure of fitting in, causing them to go out of their comfort zones and participate with the new fashion designs.
A variety of students take part in these fads because it’s a way of sticking out and being themselves, and as a result, countless styles have been incorporated into students’ appearances.
According to Sneakerfreaker.com Frank Rudy was the person who had the idea of putting air into shoes which created the Air Max’s, and today there are over eighty-six students engaging in the act of wearing Air Max’s at MHS.
Many students are including their own unique twists to the new styles of 2021 including Renee Vermillion, a fashionable and trendy senior.
“I think dressing cute is a fun way to express yourself, and it helps you to see yourself in a more positive way,” Vermillion stated. “My favorite trend is probably baby tees because they are so cute when done correctly.”
Expressing oneself can be hard at times for everyone, but it could also lead to many amazing opportunities to showcase individual uniqueness to the world.
Junior Bryce Duncan states how important it is to express oneself through clothing.
“I like the fact that my style is different from everyone and that I can express myself in many ways,” expressed Duncan. “I would call my style the ‘Bryce Fit.’”
As in the past, MHS will continue to embrace trends as a way of supporting individuality.
