Fandoms across campus

From Twilighters and Potterheads to baseball fans and Limelights, Marlow High School has students from a variety of fandoms walking through its halls each day.

Many people from various different places love to read and watch their favorite television show, book or even musical artist perform, but fangirls and fanboys take it a step further.

Some fan favorites include the  Twilight book series and trending anime Haikyuu!!

The anime category has its own super supporter that comes to MHS five days a week.

Senior Cody Davis has been a fan of anime since his eighth grade year.

During the past five years, Davis has watched many anime which have been added to his favorites list, but Davis’s favorite anime is Haikyuu!! because he relates to the characters well.

“Hinata is my favorite character because he inspires me to reach higher levels than the taller people in life,” Davis stated.

Around seventeen percent of students who took a brief survey over what franchise they are involved with are part of the anime fanbase, 52.5 % of students are part of the Marvel fan base and 31% of students are part of the Harry Potter fandom.

One member of the Harry Potter fandom is sophomore and Ravenclaw Jesika Friedl who has enjoyed reading and watching the Harry Potter books and movies since her years in middle school.

“I just love how the community is like a family,” Friedl stated.

Harry Potter fans, also known as Potterheads, are often known for their outgoing and exaggerated attempts to be the perfect example of a number one fan.

The epidemic of trying to achieve the extreme fan title stretches out along a variety of fanbases.

What one might call a “superfan” will try to find as much up-to-date information on his or her favorite celebrity or franchise.

While some fans’ cases may become extreme, it is important to students that they have their own special interests.

Marlow High School will continue to allow students to bond over common interests and portray their individuality through their respective fandoms.
