Continuing an opposition from ages past, the Marlow versus Comanche rivalry continued with a football game at Comanche on Friday, September 25.
After a well-played game, the Marlow Outlaws beat the Comanche Indians 42-13, continuing a history of well-earned wins.
With this win, the Marlow Outlaw wins against Comanche were brought to a whopping 54-21. The last time Marlow High School played the Comanche Indians was in 2017 with a win 70-6.
Due to being in different districts, the Marlow Outlaws have been unable to schedule a game against the Indians in football since 2017.
Now, the schools have the opportunity to play against each other for the next two years because they are in the same district.
Marlow Defensive football coach Jeremy Gage shared his experience losing to Comanche.
“Unfortunately, I have been here when Comanche has beaten us,” stated Gage. “It’s the worst feeling in the world. Fortunately, Marlow has been on the winning side the past few years.”
At right guard, senior Carson Moore explained how playing Comanche is different from other teams.
“It is very different playing Comanche than any other team because they are so close to us in distance between towns, and we know most of their kids on a personal level,” Moore stated.
In opposition to Moore, at strong safety and wide receiver, senior Jr Marroquin stated, “ Comanche is just another team we play; they are not anything special.”
Senior Zach Griffith, Outlaw center, explained why he thinks the rivalry will continue.
“I think the rivalry will always be around, not just in football but in other sports too,” stated Griffith. “The rivalry creates an atmosphere all players know and love.”
Fans will be looking forward to the Marlow versus Comanche rivalry in the 2021 football season.
