Splashing into the competition, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, the Marlow High School swim team traveled to Edmond, OK to participate in the OSSAA’s 2020 5A Regional Swim Meet against twenty other schools.

The swimmers who represented MHS at the meet were able to intimidate their competition with their fast times and incredible teamwork.

Placing fifth in the men’s division, the four boys defeated strong competitors such as Elgin, Bethany and Piedmont while keeping up with much larger schools such as MacArthur and Duncan.

They received fifth in the 200 yard medley relay and sixth in the 200 yard freestyle relay alongside their impressive individual placings.

Being the only upperclassman on the team, senior Caleb Warren placed twelfth in the 100 yard freestyle and fifteenth in the 400 yard freestyle.

Caleb expressed his satisfaction in regards to the successful competition.

“My goal for regionals was to just keep improving, which I was able to do by dropping a second in the 100 yard butterfly,” said Caleb. “My favorite part of regionals was being able to experience it for the first time and make new memories.”

Representing Marlow High School in the women’s division, freshman Morgan Warren placed sixteenth despite having the odds against her as she was the only girl representing MHS at the meet.

Receiving sixth place in the 200 yard freestyle and ninth in the 500 yard freestyle, Morgan was able to create a strong name for herself by being the only female participant for Marlow High.

With a positive outlook on her accomplishments, Morgan reflected on her goals for the competition.

“I had a goal time of two minutes and twenty-seven seconds for the 200 yard freestyle and six minutes and thirty-six seconds in the 500 yard freestyle, and I got both of those times,” stated Morgan. “I also really wanted to qualify for state, and I did that as well.”

With the Swim State Championships taking place later this month on Feb. 21-22 in Jenks, OK, the team will continue to improve their abilities in preparation and strengthen their bonds as a team.
