HEADLINE: MHS Art paints the town

With the streets as their canvas, the Marlow High School Art department has been busy providing the community with one-of-a-kind murals.

On campus and off, the students have been acknowledged for their expertise in bettering the town’s appearance and showcasing the wide array of talent they have to offer.

From small projects inside the classroom to larger scale murals for small-town businesses, the art department has proven their abilities through the many tasks they have taken on.

Instructing and encouraging the art students of MHS, art teacher Arlyn Brantley spoke about the positive impact of the murals.

“What is fun about the murals is getting the kids out into the community,” said Brantley. “In the future, they can look back and remember when they helped add something to the town.”

The department’s most distinguishable mural is located along the intersection of Highway 81 and Main Street.

Welcoming visitors from near and far, the mural references various activities that take place within the town of Marlow, such as the annual fireworks show.

Improving the community’s appearance with each project, the department’s most recent mural is located along the north wall of A Touch of Bliss, a local furniture store.

Junior Jaiden Standridge, who partook in painting the mural, described her aspirations regarding the impact she aspires to see through the colorful additions.

“I hope that people get a new sense of pride and joy of living in a town that has such beautiful paintings,” stated Standridge.

Alongside Standridge, junior Tyler McKinley also participated in painting the mural.

McKinley expressed his goal for the murals, a task that took multiple hours to complete and many helping hands.

“I hope it makes the community more exciting and colorful,” explained McKinley.

With Marlow becoming more beautiful with each extension, the MHS Art department is only anticipated to grow with talented students prepared to display their skills.
