As senior Aurelia Holguin encounters her final year at Marlow High School, she has received the honor of being named a captain of the Marlow Outlaw Speech Team (M.O.S.T.).
After competing on the M.O.S.T. team since her freshman year, Holguin’s leadership and speaking abilities has greatly developed through her time on the team.
“I have learned priceless communication skills and have also learned to work as hard as I want to win,” Holguin said. “I have also learned to not stress about the small things.”
Seeing how she has developed over the years, senior Abbe Johnson describes Hologuin’s growth during their time on the team together.
“I have had the pleasure to watch Aurelia grow into a strong woman that I can always turn to for the truth,” Johnson explained. “She has mastered the skill of time management and also finishing tasks she starts.”
With an abundance of improvements made, principal Bryan Brantley has noticed the growth and character development Holguin has gained during her time in M.O.S.T.
“Aurelia has improved mostly in her public speaking abilities,” Brantley explained. “When she spoke at the Lions Club, she not only read the announcement but talked with the whole club and was very comfortable in front of the microphone.”
Agreeing with Johnson and Brantley’s statements, M.O.S.T. teacher Paula McConnell has also seen Holguin›s abilities grow with her time in M.O.S.T.
“Aurelia’s range of talent stretches every year, such as her ability to be the calm in the storm,” McConnell said. “She gives great advice to others’ performances, and she has learned to slow down and take time to work efficiently and effectively, even with her busy schedule.”
Through the course of her time in M.O.S.T., Holguin has received many awards and honors in contests for her prepared pieces.
Holguin has had the opportunity to celebrate being named three time regional monologue champion.
She also has earned third place at state in monologue and fourth place at state in dramatic duet.
After high school, Holguin plans to attend Mid-America Christian University to study in the medical department.
