Being an excellent dancer and maintaining a positive attitude are a large part of what makes senior Lindley Newberry a superior squad captain on the Marlow High School Bootlegger team.

Having been a member for 4 years, Newberry has shown great leadership on and off the dance floor.

One of Newberry’s closest friends, senior Valhana Woods, recalls how Newberry has not only given to the bootlegger team but also to the school.

“Lindley is a leader, and she is not afraid to jump out of her comfort zone,” said Woods. “She has contributed to the school in several ways, whether it be in student council or on the sidelines.”

Dancing alongside Newberry, Junior Bootlegger LeeAnne Riddle had the chance to see that

being a strong role model is needed for success.

“Lindley brings joy, happiness, peace and pretty much anything good to the team,” said Riddle. “You can always go to Lindley if you need anything, that’s just her personality. She’s always there for you.”

Newberry takes pride in attending football games every Friday night can be stressful, and she supports the football team with smiles and high spirit.

Coaching the bootlegger team to always be their best self, bootlegger Coach Letia Crawson explained how Newberry has set an example for the squad.

“Lindley models positivity, endurance, and time management to the others. I can always count on her,” said Crawson.

With a positive attitude being a main aspect of a bootlegger, hard work is one of the main requirements to remain on the squad, and Newberry’s peers have taken notice of her work ethic not only at games but also at practices.

“Lindley will correct us when we make a mistake, but she does it very calmly and encourages us to do our best,” explained Riddle.

Although her dance career at MHS is coming to an end, Newberry reflected on what the program had to offer.

“Being a bootlegger has made my high school experience more enjoyable and fun,” said Newberry.

Wishing for success among her peers, Newberry shared advice on how to make the best of being a bootlegger.

“To the bootleggers, always be your true self, smile often, and put in the extra time to be great.”

Newberry plans on continuing school after graduation by attending the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University and majoring in nursing.
