In a back-and-forth game against the highly ranked Washington football team on Friday, Sept.20, the energy and adrenaline shared amongst players and students alike were undeniable.
With two minutes left in the game and the Outlaws being down 13-7, the Marlow student section moved themselves over to the other end zone to cheer on their team in the most crucial moment yet.
Despite the close loss, the spirit and support the student section poured into the team became very evident through the team’s exceptional performance.
Marlow High School senior Seth Aguilera expresses how school spirit has positively affected his playing on the field.
“The more the crowd is into it and the more the student section is into it, helps boost our energy on the field and helps us get excited and motivated.” Aguilera says.
School spirit, whether taken to the extreme or taken lightly, is a critical factor in the type of positive experience a student has in high school.
Junior student section leader Elaina Kuhlman believes that having school pride and giving support to classmates instills a sense of belonging within the Marlow student body.
“I feel like the more you try to be a part of the school spirit and sports, the easier it is to feel like you’re a part of everything going through high school,” Kuhlman said. “It has made me feel more included.”
Having a sense of pride and school spirit is what gives high school students the opportunity to evolve and get out of their comfort zone.
Students are given the chance to show their school spirit by dressing up for the themes of the week, going to athletic events, and cheering on their team and being positive even when their team is close to defeat.
As a result, the team continues to play better and stay concentrated on the game with the help of students and their ability to help support the Marlow athletic programs.
