Making sure that everything adds up to a bright future, senior Allie Custer looks onward to the teaching field.
Custer is very involved in her school and takes part in various clubs and activities. Of the extracurricular activities she takes part in, Math Club, Academic Team, and a robotics team helps her most in pursuing her dreams.
“These organizations have helped me confirm that being a teacher is what I want to do,” Custer said.
She plans on becoming a math education major with dreams of going on to teach middle school level education to early high school education.
Custer first aspired to be a teacher in the eighth grade due to Jesse Genn. Custer loved how excited Genn was about teaching and how Genn also made learning exciting as well. At this time, Custer initially thought of being an English teacher.
However, that all changed during Custer’s freshman year of high school.
There she had Tamra Fikes for Algebra 1. Custer loved the enthusiasm Fikes had towards math and how she brought out the best in Custer.
“I never really thought I was the best at math until Mrs. Fikes showed me how much I really liked it,” Custer said.
Fikes had then inspired Custer to pursue a teaching career in math. Custer hopes to have the same level of enthusiasm and love for math just as Fikes has.
“I believe Allie is going to do awesome as a teacher,” Fikes said.
Billy Daniel is another important figure in Custer’s life that has helped her decision in a career choice.
Custer has been the Marlow Outlaw Band drum major for the past two years. Custer believes that this position has helped to open her eyes to the behind the scenes work that truly goes on in the classroom.
Custer truly shows determination and strife towards her goals and senior Brittany Henry definitely takes notice.
“She always makes sure to get the job done and will not quit until it is done right,” Henry said.
Custer hopes on attending Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond.
