Trump and Clinton square off once again

Campaign 2016 Debate

The very first presidential debate of both parties took place on October 26 with Donald Trump (R) and Hillary Clinton (D) taking the stage.

The overall demeanor of the candidates made it seem like an episode of wrestling rather than a debate for the highest office in the land.

The debate started off on the subject of income inequality with Clinton taking a stance on the subject of rising wages, equal pay for women and paid family leave.

According to Time Magazine, while comparing the salary of males and females in the medical field, male doctors were shown to make eight-percent more than female ones.

This subject does not only pertain to the medical field, but instead the whole job sector in general with people vouching for raising the minimum wage.

Now I do not like to choose sides when it comes to the political realm, but this is something I believe needs to be addressed.

With the rise of inflation, the cost of living increases; and if wages remain the same, it becomes harder to get by.

The candidates also touched on making the job market better for Americans by bringing jobs back home from overseas.

Trump recites that if a company wishes to do business in the United States, they must be operated here.

“If you want to do business in Mexico then good luck, but if you want to bring whatever you make into the United States without a tax – you are wrong.”

This notion has been a highlight of his campaign with him taking shots at Mexico and China along with companies that have taken advantage of foreign tax havens.

Clinton on the other hand, mentioned that we should be investing more in clean energy such as wind turbines and solar farms, which will then create new jobs.

I feel that investing in clean energy is imperative for the well-being of future generations.

Our current energy status quo has worked well over the years, but the oilfield lacks the job security that people seek.

The United States can only keep job security strong in the energy sector if the nation can become energy-independent.

This is one of the only things I can say Trump is right on in regard to this issue.

Trump does a very good job of rallying against nations who manipulate the U.S. market and I give him credit for that.

Both Trump and Clinton also touched heavily on defeating ISIS abroad and at home.

Clinton states that the United States should use air strikes topped with ground forces to effectively eliminate ISIS facilities and militants.

In regard to securing the homeland, she stated that the United States should remain vigilant to threats of terrorism and strengthen cyber security.

Trump believes in basically the same thing, but he thinks that the United States should have left troops behind so that ISIS would not have even formed.

This was only one of three debates with the second one taking place on October 9.

The winner of these debates does not determine who becomes president, but it does give insight into the election.
