Seniors reflect on last year playing as Marlow Outlaws

With split results at the district tournament at Comanche last Friday, the Outlaw basketball teams are now preparing for regional competition. The boys came away with a 61-46 win, and the girls lost by a score 35-31.

With regionals approaching, Marlow senior players reflect on their season and memories they have made over the years.

“My favorite part of this season was getting closer as a team and learning how to play together,” Keverly James said.

“As the end of season nears, I am experiencing bittersweet feelings,” James added.

Megan Wade, who has played basketball for 10 years, said that the season ending hits home because of her sophomore sister.

“I’ll miss Hannah,” Wade said. “There is honestly nothing better than playing with her. I always know what she’s doing on the court and that she’s going to give 110% out there.”

Senior Kris McCarley said that he’s played for 11 years and that he also has learned a lot from the sport.

“I love the competitiveness. It has taught me that no matter how hard life is, you never quit.”

“It has taught me to never give up. Even when you’re behind, everything can change,” McCarley added.

Diamond Morris said she has learned that winning isn’t everything.

“The one game I remember from this season is the Lindsay game. Even though we lost, we came together as a team and played our hardest,” Morris said.

Brady Melton, on the other hand, said that winning is one of his favorite parts.

“I loved winning the Stephens County Tournament,” Melton said. “Winning every game in blowout fashion is probably my favorite part.”

Melton also said that he will use the lessons that basketball has taught him in his life.

“If you are a selfish person, life can be tough,” Melton said.

“You have to trust other people and even the ones that are not as good and are weaker can still be successful. Basketball is so much like life,” Melton added.

Patrick Whitehead said that some of his favorite memories involved beating Comanche in the district tournament his junior and senior years.

“Have a 17-game winning streak this year was also a high point,” Whitehead added.

Shayna Thockmorton said some of the lessons she learned came while off the court.

“My favorite part of this season would be the Bible studies on Wednesday night with the team,” Throckmorton said.

One Lady Outlaw says she is looking toward the future.

“I am sad that the season is coming to an end, but I’m ready for something new,” senior Tori Nations said.

Marlow will be hosting regionals beginning on Thursday, February 26, at the multipurpose gym.

Both teams will play Marietta, with the girls tipping off at 1:30 and the boys set to play at 8 p.m.
