StuCo returns from convention at Del City
The Marlow High School student council has been recognized as one of 13 schools in the state to receive the National Gold Council of Excellence award.
This award was given by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
“This award is given to councils that meet a long list of criteria in areas such as community involvement, leadership training, and school service projects,” student council adviser Ann Field said.
Marlow also received the Oklahoma Gold Council Award, awarded by the Oklahoma Association of Student Council (OASC).
The recognition came when they traveled to Del City on Saturday, November, 8 for the annual State Student Council Convention.
The theme of this year’s convention, “Tuning Your Leadership” urged this generation of leaders to stand firm, confident and unchanging, a theme which Field said benefitted those in attendance.
“We had a great experience at state convention this year. Del City High School did an excellent job of challenging us to be better leaders through amazing motivational speakers, fun breakout sessions and educational general sessions.

Student council president senior Jayden Newberry led a breakout session for Children’s Miracle Network Hospital’s.
“It felt really good to get that together to show responsibility,” Newberry said. “When it was all over I felt accomplished because I had seen my task through! It taught me a lot of personal life goals to help me grow as a person.”
Senior Bree Boyce said the speakers motivated her to strive to be a better leader.
“They were really inspiring,” Boyce said. “They kept me entertained.”
“At The Emmy’s” was the theme for the dance where student council members were able to let loose and mingle with other student council representatives from across the state.
“The dance was epic,” freshman Brooke Morriston said. “It was a great bonding experience.”
The Marlow council plans to grow and excel using the leadership skills that they learned while at convention, according to Field.
