McClure earns respect

Given the nickname “Old Faithful” by his football coaches, senior Trevor McClure earns respect not only as for his role as a player but also his integrity.

Assistant coach Jeremy Gage praises McClure for his exceptional performance.

“Trevor is an intelligent player. We watched film from Elgin’s game, and out of 62 plays, he messed up once. His character off the field is outstanding, as well.”

McClure is a starter on both offense and defense, holding the positions of linebacker and tight end.

To McClure, another positive aspect of being on the football team is the role they perform at Marlow Elementary School.

“I love the Football Buddy program! They look up to us,” McClure said. “Making a positive impact in their lives makes me feel worthy.”

When illuminated by Friday night lights, McClure finds himself looking for motivation through his team.

“I play to not let them down,” McClure said. “If I’m not playing for myself, I’m playing for the teammate standing next to me.”

Senior Nick Yates described McClure as a “true team player.”

“He’s dependable and will never give up on you, that’s Old Faithful,” Yates said.

When not on the field, McClure finds motivation in his favorite football movie, Facing the Giants.

“It inspires me because they’re the underdogs, and it doesn’t matter to them,” he said. “The Shiloh Eagles go out on the field with full hearts, clean minds and the intention to win.”

Although he loves football, McClure will end his playing career as a Marlow Outlaw. His future plans include pursuing a degree in engineering.

McClure is the son of Tony and Kimberly McClure.
