Senior plans to pursue career in music therapy
The daughter of Marcia and the late Glen Folmar, senior Rachel Folmar is a true music lover. Folmar is a four-year member of the MHS vocal group, the Entertainers.
Folmar is also active in the band. She plays the trumpet, French horn and piano. Folmar said playing in the band enables her to express a part of her immense love for music.
Band director Billy Daniel gave much praise to this melodic senior.
“She is very dependable and responsible young lady,” Daniel said. “She is always asking what can be done next and is hard-working.”
Folmar has loved music for as long as she can remember and said she likes to listen to Christian and up-beat music the most.
While she likes to listen to music, Folmar also likes to sing it.
She loves to sing in Italian and her favorite is the harmony of almost any song.
“Rachel has a real can-do attitude and she is very reliable,” said vocal instructor Brent Logan.
Folmar hopes to go into music therapy where she can also express her desire to help people, especially children.
“I’ve always wanted to go into therapy,” Folmar said,” so when I discovered music therapy, I thought, why not do therapy that also involves something I’m passionate about?”
Folmar learned about the career path while attending a tour of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford where she plans to attend college.
Folmar job shadows occupational therapy department at Duncan Regional Hospital.
She knows that she has much to learn about this occupation since it also being a new career being offered.
She is a very dependable and responsible young lady. She is always asking what can be done next and is hard working.
