Davis follows siblings’ path
Tradition is important to this week’s Lions Club Student of the Week. Senior Chris Davis carries on his brother’s wrestling excellence and sister’s love for the medical field.
Chris has been wrestling since he first moved to Marlow in 2002. His brother, Kevin Davis, wrestled all through high school and was Outstanding Wrestler in 3A his senior year.
“I was always trying to outdo my brother to try to prove that I was as good as or better than he is,” Chris said. “Kevin is the reason I started wrestling.”
Chris has had success in wrestling during his high school career. He qualified for state as a freshman and has placed in many tournaments statewide.
“I just love wrestling. I love getting on the mat and knowing you’re better than the guy you just beat. It’s more personal. It’s just you and him,” Davis said.
Wrestling coach Kelly Henderson praised Davis for his work ethic.
“Chris is a hard worker with great conditioning. I think he’ll go far,” Henderson said.
Chris also has a love for the medical field, which he shares with his sister, Kelly. She is currently working toward a degree in community and public health awareness at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
“I’ve always liked medicine. When I was young, I would ask the doctors about their instruments when they were giving me a checkup,” Davis said. “I guess you could say I have an unquenchable thirst for medical knowledge.”
Chris pursues his interest through the Biomedical Science Academy at the Red River Technology Center in Duncan.
“Chris is a fine example of a person with a curious mind and ample talent. He has a bright future in science ahead of him. He should do very well,” biomedical instructor Lori Lovett said.
Chris is the son of Margaret and Darrell Davis
