C-C seniors reminisce
Four make All-Star Team
Codi Young MHS exPRESSMany people say that high school days are the greatest days of your life. The days are filled with being around the people that many have been with ever since that first day of school as a pre-k student.
Having such a long history with classmates and thinking about their days at Marlow school winding down is hard for some people to accept, especially if they senior cross country runners, who have shared many memories.
“At state I had a combination of emotions– it was hard to accept that it was my last cross country meet with my second family who I have grown to love.” Sarah Ivory
The teams have grown together not just as a team, but as a family. They have shared weekly team dinners that ended with a bible study and have become close to fellow runners and their coaches as well.
“Coach Ivory helped give me the confidence to run whenever I was nervous or scared and told me where I needed to be,” Justin Brown said.
One of the best things about being a part of a team is making memories with individuals who share the same interests in that activity as you do. While some of the runners’ favorite memories range from the bus rides to and from events to meeting up at restaurants after meets, others said the team bonding is what they remember the most.
“Getting to go to state and staying in the hotel was unforgettable,” Jillian Cowley said. “It was very team-oriented, and that is where we bonded the most.”
With the boys running as many as eight miles and the girls running six, getting motivated was difficult at times. Some members said they told themselves that it only gets easier and the outcome of the hard work is going to be worth it.
“I motivated myself this year by telling myself that this is my last chance to prove what I can do in high school cross country–that is what kept me going.” Chris Davis
