Iverson began playing piano at age five and started formal training around age seven, traveling to Oklahoma City for competitions.

“I also remember competing in Star Search with one of my friends, Courtney Howard. We won the award for being the most original act,” Howard said.

In addition to playing piano, Iverson also played clarinet as a member of the school band program for five years.  She earned the Outstanding Musician Award in seventh through tenth grades and served as section leader for three years.

Iverson said her decision to quit band was not an easy one.

“I love music, but I was getting burned out, so I decided to do something different. Also, band and chemistry were offered the same hour, and I really needed the chemistry class for college,” Iverson said.

In addition to her musical interests, Iverson is among the top students in her class and maintains an unweighted 4.0 grade point average.

“Though it’s been really hard maintaining good grades all through high school, I’ve managed to focus on what I want to be. I’ve realized that to achieve my goal, I have to keep good grades. That has been my motivation,” Iverson said.

High school math teacher, Tamra Fikes credits Iverson’s attitude and work ethic for her academic success.

“Kassidy is a bright student who is always willing to try and who has a pleasant personality. She is a great team player and works well with others,” Fikes said.

After graduation, Iverson plans to attend Cameron University, where she is currently taking classes through con-current enrollment. Eventually, she plans to attend the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. She hopes one day to be a doctor, specializing in pediatrics.

“Kassidy is really a strong science student, and as long as I have known her, she has been a very hardworking young lady,” chemistry teacher Jennifer Lehman said. “I feel her career goal of working in pediatrics is a great fit for her given her patient and caring interaction with kids.

The daughter of Katy and Rob Iverson, Kassidy represented Marlow High School at Lions Club on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
