Sophomore makes name with duck call venture
Recently, duck calls have become widely associated with the hit show Duck Dynasty; however, sophomore Jackson White is making a name for himself with his own brand called Fowled Out Custom Calls.
“I started making calls because I got tired of paying for them. Some calls cost upward of $150,” White said.
Jackson started to make duck calls about two months ago after he taught himself by watching tutorials on YouTube. White makes the calls, hand tunes them and field tests them to ensure quality. Each call takes about an hour to make.
Senior Austin Forsythe helps White field test his calls.
“I hunt using Jackson’s calls to make sure they work. His calls are better than the $150 to $200 calls that I have purchased. They are amazing quality for the money.” -Austin Forsythe
Jackson hand carves some of the pieces himself from blocks of wood, making around five a day. White then hand tunes each reed so that he is sure his final product is up to standard with those that are made by large companies.
Jackson’s calls have been sold, not only locally, but also in Colorado, Virginia and Kansas. They are also available at Murf’s Guns in Duncan.
White’s dream is to one day sell his product in a major chain location.
“I would love to sell my calls at Bass Pro Shops or Cabela’s someday. I just want to make a good call for a good price,” White said.
Marlow High School assistant principal Jeremy Gage recently purchased one of Jackson’s custom duck calls.
“I like to duck hunt and Jackson’s calls are quality products. I like to support young entrepreneurs,” Gage said.
White recently showcased his work at the Oklahoma Delta Water Fowl Banquet in Oklahoma City to spread the word about his company and meet potential clients. The call he donated was auctioned off for $200.
White also had a table set up at the Ducks Unlimited banquet in Ardmore on Saturday, September 21st, where he sold out completely.
His calls can be ordered through his Facebook page Fowled Out Custom Calls. He can also be reached at his email, Jackson.White28@yahoo.com or his phone 580-467-4918 to order duck calls.
