Seniors reflect about time as Outlaw football players

With the season ending after a disappointing loss to the Cushing Tigers, our Outlaw football players are finding consolation in the fact that they still had a winning year. They finished the season with a 7-5 record.

With the 2014 season as their last, they all have sentimental feelings about it ending.

“It is very bittersweet,” Trevor McClure, tight end and outside linebacker, said. “It’s sweet because we had a good chance of making it far into the playoffs, but at the same time it’s bitter                                                                                                                             because all of the fun years have                                                                                         come to a close.”

One Marlow senior described how such a small town has become such a big part of him.

“It’s come to an end fast, and it’s amazing how fast time flies, but I’m very thankful God has led me to Marlow. I love being an Outlaw; this place has become home for                   me.”

–Nick Yates, running back and outside linebacker

Wide receiver Zac Beasler said that it’s very sad knowing that after this, he will never play football with the boys that he’s been playing with all his life.

“I am going to miss everything that has to do with football, especially my teammates,” Beasler said.

All the senior players said that they thought they had a great chance in making it deep into playoffs, which was soon accomplished as they made it to round two.

Senior Beau Meshell, full back and linebacker, said that he has learned to be a leader and a fighter.

“I have learned how to take criticism and how to motivate others and myself. The passion that I have for this game will live with me forever. I hope to leave a legacy with his               team. That legacy would be to always play hard, never                   give up and to bend but never break.”

Hector Bullock, center and defensive back, says his legacy would be to leave the impression of putting everything he had on the field and into the game.

“If I had to describe the season in one word it would be MTXE. It stands for mental toughness, extra effort,” Bullock said. “I have learned to be a better leader because you never know who is watching and/or looking up to you.”

Brady Melton, tight end and defensive end, explained the importance of being in playoffs.

“Playoffs were a big goal at the beginning of the year. When we got there, it felt great,” Melton said.

“Hosting a playoff game felt even better. We knew it would be win or go home from the first round against Little Axe.”

Kris McCarley said that his senior year of football as a Marlow Outlaw could be described as honorable.

“The playoffs are an exciting time of the year, and it is a great feeling knowing that we made it pretty far in the playoffs,” McCarley said.

Every player agreed that playoffs are an exciting thing, and that they will all miss playing with their team.

Nick Yates said that he wishes to leave a legacy of “making dreams a reality,” and the whole team believes that they have done just that with this successful season of football.

Although they didn’t make it as far as they hoped, the team is proud that they had a very good season.
